MTS Private LTE Networks gets Automated QoS Monitoring

A solution for the automatic monitoring of communication quality for specialized private LTE (pLTE) networks has been created by Russian operator MTS (Mobile TeleSystems). These networks are installed at eight significant Russian mining and metallurgical companies. With the use of cutting-edge technology, this service seeks to maximize communication quality and expedite production processes.

MTS has said that its group has created and executed the new service “Marta,” which makes use of big data analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide real-time quality control of pLTE networks.

MTS Ocean pLTE Integration

The system is integrated into MTS’s in-house cloud platform, MTS Ocean, which was introduced in 2022. It is linked to each client’s pLTE network base station and tracks network elements and activity, quickly detecting and resolving any deviations from quality indicators like coverage, accessibility, mobility, and continuity.

“The new solution successfully regulates the performance of our clients’ dedicated networks, as demonstrated by the Marta service’s initial results. With the creation of MTS, we are now able to anticipate potential occurrences, detect them before consumers do, and act quickly to resolve them as soon as they arise. The AI feature that employs self-learning through retrospective examination of the data collected would help the system’s performance over time,”

Scaling for a Global Impact

In order to guarantee the availability and superior quality of mobile services in specialized business networks, MTS intends to accelerate the development of Marta to the point where a commercial solution may be implemented. The company claims that this project is essential for sectors like mining, metallurgy, and energy, where smooth communication is essential to the stability of operations and the security of vital technical processes.

According to MTS, 34 commercial and pilot projects have been carried out since 2019. This represents more than half of all pLTE networks that have been built or tested in Russia.

VoLTE Technology Growth

MTS recently revealed that, in another development related to networks, the percentage of voice traffic using VoLTE technology climbed from 29.2 percent to 38.4 percent by the end of 2023. Additionally, there was a 43.8 percent rise in the overall length of discussions on the LTE network. MTS explained the surge in VoLTE traffic to both the ongoing network upgrade and the growing use of 4G LTE handsets. There are now 81 areas in Russia where MTS VoLTE is available.
