The assets of OpNet, formerly known as Linkem, a provider of wholesale fixed wireless access (FWA), have been bought by Wind Tre, an Italian network operator. Opnet said in a statement announcing the acquisition that Wind Tre had purchased the whole business, with the exception of Tessellis, in which Opnet owns 59.26% of the shares.
Acquisition Specifics
Opnet said that although the deal is pending regulatory and governmental approvals, it should be completed in the upcoming months. Both firms will continue to grow their separate operations throughout this time, according to all regulations.
The capital markets and investment banking company Jefferies Financial Group announced in a separate statement that it had reached an agreement to sell all of OpNet’s businesses to Wind Tre, a division of CK Hutchison Group Telecom Holdings. The deal states that the transaction is valued at EUR 485 million. It is projected that this deal will close in 2024 during the second or third quarter.
Enhancement of Spectrum
Opnet possesses spectrum that is essential for 5G, and this deal will support Wind Tre’s current spectrum. These frequencies, which were purchased at a cost of 516.7 million euros in the 2018 5G frequency auction, contain 20 MHz in the 3.6–3.8 GHz band and 200 MHz in the millimeter band 26.5-27.5 GHz.
The acquisition will complement Wind Tre’s plan for network infrastructure growth and optimization, the official release claims.
OpNet
Initially functioning as Linkem until September 2022, OpNet was established in 2001. After the retail branch’s corporate spin-off and recent merger with Tiscali, which is now known as Tessellis, the firm changed its name. After the deal was finalized in July 2022, Opnet now owns 59.26 percent of the shares of Tessellis, making it the company’s largest stakeholder.
