Deutsche Telekom has given Network Software Provider Mavenir a contract to update and develop messaging capabilities for 5G readiness for its networks in a number of European nations, including Slovakia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Greece, and Austria. Four Deutsche Telekom locations in Europe are using Mavenir’s entirely cloud-native Message Controller system.

Secure 5G Messaging

Mavenir stated in an official statement that by enabling secure Application to Person (A2P) messaging across many network generations, such as 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, its secure messaging solution is intended to increase revenue growth. Important aspects of the solution are the ability to activate devices remotely over-the-air (OTA) and to use less power when required by SMS as opposed to a constant data connection. These features are essential for the expanding Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications that are made possible by 5G technology.

By combining messaging needs from all network generations—2G, 3G, 4G, IMS, and 5G—into a single, simplified solution, the Message Controller removes needless complexity. It includes features like the critical SMS Function (SMSF) for 5G communications, MMSC, SMSC, IP Short Message Gateway (IP-SM GW), SMS firewall, and more.

Essential Parts

The technology, which is offered as a completely containerised cloud-native solution that can operate on any cloud, is said to reduce costs, energy usage, and carbon footprint while improving agility and flexibility. According to the official statement, the Message Controller is also prepared for automation capabilities, utilising Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) technologies to speed up deployment, updates, and scaling operations.

“The long experience with Mavenir in the Messaging area has shown that we can successfully work as partners to deliver the best service to our customers. For our DT cloudification journey, we decided to continue this partnership in our European footprint.”
