Orange and Telekom in Romania are Merging

Orange and Telekom

The Romanian Government has approved the merger between Orange and Telekom Romania, as reported by Ziarul Financiar.

Orange currently owns 54% of the shares, while the Romanian state holds the remaining 46%. The merger’s schedule will be announced in early 2024. In 2021, Orange acquired their 54% stake from Deutsche Telekom, enabling them to provide integrated fixed-mobile services to their customers.

If the merger is completed, Romania will have three mobile network operators, with Orange Romania holding the largest market share.

Vodafone Romania and Digi Romania have partnered. Digi Romania has been discussing the launch of a mobile network in Spain.

Orange has expanded in Romania and is now an infrastructure-based operator in various markets. They offer services to around five million customers, including mobile, fixed voice, broadband, and pay-tv. Their fiber network connects almost three million households.

TowerXchange data shows that Telekom Romania owns 3,000 mobile towers, while Orange Romania owns an additional 3,000.
