T-Systems and AQT Launches Quantum Cloud Computing

T-Systems and Alpine Quantum Technologies (AQT) are collaborating to make AQT’s quantum computers available to T-Systems Quantum Cloud users.

The multi-quantum cloud solution from T-Systems incorporates AQT’s computers, and thus far, successful test runs have been carried out.

Quantum Cloud Computing

The devices developed by AQT are ion trap-based quantum computers, which create qubits by using direct current and radio-frequency fields to confine a linear chain of ions through an electric potential. Although the ions themselves must be laser-cooled to a near-ground state, the procedure can be carried out at ambient temperature.

Thus far, AQT has managed to reach a quantum volume of 128. The system is immediately fit for installation in a typical 19-inch rack cabinet.

Quantum computers will be made accessible for use in computing time-based models and volume packages that span from multi-month proofs-of-concept to one-day introductions.

T-Systems and AQT

T-Systems’ SVP of global portfolio and technological excellence, Jörn Kellermann, stated: “We saw quantum computing as a crucial core technology for the future early on. The partnership with AQT broadens the prospects for the initial clients using the T-Systems Quantum Cloud, who are now utilizing a sovereign European infrastructure.

“Together with T-Systems, we offer our customers hands-on access to the best quantum computers in Europe,” states Thomas Monz, the CEO and creator of AQT. We firmly believe that Europe will gain access to whole new markets and capacities thanks to the cooperation between our quantum computers and T-Systems’ cloud infrastructure.

The Austrian Academy of Sciences and the University of Innsbruck are the parents of AQT. Thanks to the European Innovation Council (EIC) and the Quantum Computers for Data Centers (QCDC) initiative, the firm has been able to make its quantum computers available via the cloud.

T-Systems is a division of Deutsche Telekom that offers services for digital transformation and IT. In September 2022, discussions broke down, and Deutsche Telekom decided not to proceed with its intentions to sell T-Systems in 2022. T-System’s poor profitability, which forced the business to cut its data center portfolio from 89 to 13 in 2019, was one of the factors contributing to the sale.
