KPN

KPN’s recent acquisition of CGN’s network, rural Drenthe will soon have even more access to high-speed internet infrastructure.

On January 11, 2024, KPN announced that it has reached a deal to purchase Cooperatie Glasvezel Noord’s (CGN) network. According to a news statement from KPN, the CGN network located north of Drenthe provides service to over 3,700 rural locations in the municipalities of Tynaarlo, Noordenveld, and Assen.

Network primarily Led by Volunteers

Regarding the arrangement, CGN stated, “Since 2013, cooperative volunteers have devoted a great deal of effort to creating the network. The acquisition by KPN guarantees that our members will continue to have access to fast internet in the future and was the right move. Thus, we’ve succeeded in our mission. With its experience and understanding, KPN will be more qualified to oversee and maintain the fiber network for a very long time. We are glad to move it because of this.”

KPN stays on “KPN is quickly updating its current copper networks with fiber networks in their place. We can continue to lead the Netherlands in digitalization and offer our clients broadband connectivity as a consequence. We work on this whenever it’s feasible. Our fiber network has greatly expanded as a result of the merger with CGN.”

Open Network

The CGN network is and will continue to be open to all telecom companies, according to the official statement. In addition, the cooperative’s linked customers and businesses will not see any changes since their existing TV, internet, and phone subscriptions will not be impacted.

Also, in 2024, KPN will begin providing services on the CGN network. Although the financial terms of the transaction have not been made public by the parties, this move represents a step forward in KPN’s commitment to growing and updating its fiber networks.
