With funding from the EU, Telia Finland is building a programmable 5G network for the Sirius project. With this method, network configuration may be optimized by application developers, offering a customized user experience.

Telia Finland is implementing a programmable 5G network for the EU-funded Sirius project, Signaled to be the first company to do so. The Standalone 5G Network (5G SA) is the foundation of the 5G ecosystem, which is especially made for the development of transportation-related applications. According to Telia Finland, the environment will be set up along the transportation corridor that runs from Helsinki Airport to Mariehamn and then on to Sweden via land and sea.

5G Network Programmability

Applications connect to the network in a programmable network, asking for the features they need to function. Telia emphasized that up until today, all consumers have received the same level of service from mobile networks.

On the other hand, Telia has effectively provided a service on the 5G private network wherein the operator sets network settings to suit specific user needs. Users can access 5G’s advanced features by engaging in the public network’s settings definition through their application in a programmable 5G network.

Telia Tailored Network

“It is clear that programmable 5G networks have advantages. To ensure that the client receives precisely what performance he need from the network, the application developer can specify the ideal network setting to meet the application’s requirements. According to Telia Finland, “the interaction between the application and the network enhances connection security and dependability while also ensuring the intended user experience.

Programmable 5G Network Advantages

Telia went on to say that the application can communicate with the network and determine the optimum quality, maximum speed, level of reliability and maximum latency that the connection must have. According to a Telia Finland press statement, the application may simultaneously request data to modify its operation based on the network’s performance.

Telia Finland stressed that the project entails building a network that leverages processing power at the network’s edge and cloud deployment. According to Telia, this enables application developers to take full use of the newest capabilities of the 5G network in Finland for the first time.
