In Africa, 1,500 locations have received Open RAN operations from Parallel Wireless.

This week, the Open RAN expert from the US provided an update on its implementation, stating that hybrid networks had been installed in Tanzania, Guinea Conakry, Ghana, South Sudan, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Malawi.

Open RAN supports various manufacturers to work together in the construction of mobile networks, unlike to traditional mobile networks, which are typically supported by a single vendor.

Parallel Wireless Rural and Urban Coverage

According to Parallel Wireless, it has concentrated on 2G and 4G in urban and suburban regions as well as 2G and 3G in rural areas.

Yisrael Nov, VP of Global Sales at Parallel Wireless, stated, “Our extensive and complex deployments were successful due to our familiarity and experience with the region, which helped us navigate the complex environmental challenges and lack of resources in these areas.”

“A vast population will benefit from an improved network and bring in a new era of dependable connectivity by extending modern networks throughout the region and using multiple technologies.”

Open RAN (Radio Access Network)

Open RAN has been promoted by a number of manufacturers, including Ericsson, Nokia, and Mavenir Telecom, and has been implemented or planned to be used by a number of operators, including Vodafone, Orange, and AT&T.

By the end of the decade, telcos should have invested over $30 billion in Open RAN, according to research firm Counterpoint.
